trendy clothesI am raising my eleven year old step-granddaughter Alisha. She is a pubescent eleven year old and like most preteens trendy clothes are a big deal to her. I can remember being Alisha’s age and older. I wanted to wear trendy clothes in order to look cool and to fit in with my peers and Alisha is no different. My husband and I do not mind Alisha wearing trendy clothes and we try to get her what she wants within reason. We insist that the trendy clothes Alisha wears are still modest because we do not want her to grow up too quickly. We also make sure that Alisha dresses appropriately for the weather. Sometimes I know  the trendy clothes Alisha wants to wear one day for school aren’t going to be warm enough for her.  When this happens I help Alisha find trendy clothes that are a bit warmer. I do not want my step-granddaughter to get sick trying to make a fashion statement so I insist that she dresses warmly in winter whether she likes it or not.  Other than that we try not to be too strict with Alisha about trendy clothes.  We allow her to pick her own clothes online with adult supervision to ensure that the purchases are sensible.
