hair care, trendy clothesI was reading what another contributor wrote about hair care mattering less in the workplace these days and I am inclined to disagree. I know that we live in an era in which we are all supposed to treat each other in a way that is considered politically correct and that there are rules against discrimination in the workplace. Yet I think that as humans we are inclined to judge others by what we see and perceive physically when we first meet them. Hence someone who has taken pains with hair care will make a better impression that an individual whose tresses resemble a bird’s nest. Similarly someone who is wearing trendy clothes and has on a cologne fragrance that smells nice will also make a favorable impression. It might not be fair but if you go around looking like a slob then people are going to think that you are one. That doesn’t mean that a man who has long hair will not be given a job. It means that a man or woman with dirty, greasy disheveled hair (long or short) will not make the best impression.  Hair care is still important, as is general grooming. I think these things will always matter regardless of whether it is fair or not.
