I love trendy clothes because that's where I get my fashion inspiration. I can flip through the pages of Vogue and Elle to seek out some of the latest styles. Many of these styles on the pages of high-end fashion magazines lean more toward works of art, rather than clothes that can actually be worn. So, what many stores do is take a catwalk concept and water it down so that it can be worn by the mainstream population.
Though I simply adore new ideas and trendy clothes, I have to say that basics are mainstays in my closet. Basic items are typically practical, but stylish. For example, a little black dress is a basic item because it can be dressed up or dressed down. It is also timeless; women throughout the last century have worn the little black dress, including Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn. It can also be worn to different sorts of occasions, from a wedding to a funeral. Other basic items include a well fitting pair of boot cut jeans, a blazer, t-shirts in black or white, a nice crisp white button-up blouse and more.
Every now and then, I'll purchase trendy clothes. However, if I had to choose, I would prefer having a wardrobe filled with basics, rather than trendy clothes.
