trendy clothes, perfume andWhen girls reach the age of around eleven or twelve something happens to them and I’m not talking about puberty although it is probably linked to it. My step-granddaughter Alisha seems to have developed a sudden but keen interest in trendy clothes, hair care, perfume and makeup. Now if it were up to my husband young Alisha would never be allowed to wear trendy clothes or use perfume and makeup. However I was young once too so I know that if we do not meet her half way she is bound to rebel at some stage. The trick is to get the balance right. I have no objection to her wearing cologne perfume that is light, subtle and appropriate for her age group. When it comes to makeup I think she should maybe be allowed to use a very light pink lip gloss, a little mascara and a concealing stick to cover up any unsightly adolescent pimples. Nor have I any complaints about her wearing trendy clothes but there are two conditions to this one. First of all I don’t want her dressing inappropriately so there will be no micro miniskirts or shirts that reveal too much chest. Furthermore I am unwilling to spend a fortune on trendy clothes for Alisha. She can wear Gucci and Prada the day she is able to afford to buy those designer labels for herself.
