The Lasting Impression of Perfume and Cologne |

It is crazy how certain smells get locked into our unconscious and bring up specific memories every time they waft into our nostrils. Perfume and cologne is a prime example of that. I bet you can imagine what your mom’s perfume smelled like or the scent of a first love. Sometimes a not so good smell can actually draw up great memories. When I was in Junior High School, I think it was 8th grade, Michael Jordan came out with a cologne fragrance line. MJ was and always will be the man. As young kids, of course we wanted to wear a cologne fragrance he was endorsing…so we thought. Tyler, one of my best friends at the time had been the first to pick up a fresh new bottle of MJ’s cologne. I was at Tyler’s house when he pulled off the plastic wrap and exposed the scent. Let me just say for those who missed out on this fine fragrance that Jordan must have collected all the sweat he had dripping into his sweat band after practice and squeezed it into a bottle.
This was a burly smell. There is all that scientific data about women are attracted to men’s natural pheromones (sweat) and MJ must have taken this fact to a marketable level. The natural cologne fragrance may have worked on Jordan but the smell of his sweat on Tyler was absolutely hilarious. The open mouthed reaction of Tyler, standing there in MJ basketball shorts still brings a smile to my face.
